1 cooking (tart) apple, peeled, cored
and chopped
225 g/8 oz stoned (pitted) dates, chopped
150 ml water
350 g/12 oz rolled oats
175 g/6 oz butter or margarine, melted
45 ml/3 tbsp demerara sugar
5 ml/1 tsp ground cinnamon |
Method:
Place the apples, dates and water in a
pan and simmer gently for about 5 minutes until the apples are soft.
Leave to cool. Mix together the oats, butter or margarine, sugar and
cinnamon. Spoon half into a greased 20 cm/8 in square cake tin (pan)
and level the surface. Top with the apple and date mixture, then cover
with the remaining oat mixture and level the surface. Press down
gently. Bake in a preheated oven at 190°C/375°F/gas mark 5 for about
30 minutes until golden brown. Leave to cool, then cut into bars.
